Weight it, stand it up.
Silica sand is the standard infill for synthetic turf. It ballasts the turf to keep it flat, supports the fibers so they stand upright, and shields the backing from UV — extending the life of the install.
Grades run by screen size: the lower the number, the bigger the grain. #16 is the coarsest, #30 is medium and #60 is the finest. Each grade comes in 50 lb and 100 lb bags.

For a lawn that won’t see heavy foot traffic, 1 to 2 pounds per square foot is usually enough. On 1,000 square feet that is 1,000 to 2,000 pounds: 20 to 40 bags at 50 lb, or 10 to 20 bags at 100 lb. Pet areas and busy installs may need a specialty infill, so ask your rep.
